The current webpage is designed to make additional research available concerning foods and beverages or their major bioactive components that have the potential to promote ER+/PR+ breast cancer. At the bottom of this webpage are links to studies relating to the foods under limit or avoid in Foods to eat and avoid for ER+/PR+ patients and survivors.
Foods and beverages can promote ER+/PR+ breast cancer based on incorporating certain compounds or other factors:
- Alcohol, all types, including red wine
- Asparagine (asparagus)
- Cadmium (possibly significant levels in dried apricots from Turkey, dark chocolate, free range escargot, flaxseed grown in high cadmium soils, Indian or black mustard, shellfish - especially oysters, squid & lobster, rice grown in cadmium-contaminated soils, sunflower seeds)
- Copper (liver - especially calf & beef, sesame seeds, shellfish - especially oysters & calamari, soy protein isolate, sunflower seeds)
- Harmful compounds produced during cooking (grilled, BBQ'd, fried or smoked meat or fish)
- High fructose corn syrup (sodas, condiments, juice drinks, other sweetened processed foods)
- High omega-6 content (corn oil, safflower oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil)
- Myristic acid (butter, cheese, coconut oil)
- Highly salty foods (canned foods, cheese & processed cheese, fast food, frozen dinners, pickled foods, processed meats, soybean paste, added salt, salty condiments, salty snacks)
- Soy protein isolate (meat replacement, protein bars, protein shakes)
- Zeranol growth promoter (non-organic beef and lamb)
