Statin: Drugs used to treat high cholesterol. Statins are classified either as lipophilic (Lipitor, Zocor, Mevacor, Lescol) or hydrophilic (Crestor, Pravachol), depending on the compound. Lipophilic statins are also known as hydrophobic statins.
